The taste of Rajasthan

5:07 PM

Rajasthan is mostly famous for vegetarian cuisine with a wide variety of dishes.  Most popular ones being the Plain Ghevar, malai Ghevar and Jalebi in desserts; Kadhi, Ker-saangri and Gatte ki Sabzi in Curries; Bikaneri Bhujia, Mirchi Vada, Pyaaj Kachori & Mawa Kachori in Snacks and Dal Bhati Churma in Main course. While you're in Rajasthan do not miss out to try some of these.

We had a great experience trying out the local flavors in some of the best restaurants highlighted below:

Jodhpur: While in Jodhpur one cannot miss the rooftop candlelit dinner with amazing view of Mehrangarh fort lit in the backdrop and delicious food on your plate, it's an experience of a lifetime. One such is the Curry’s rooftop restaurant where we tried ker sangri.

For the local snacks in Jodhpur head out straight to the famous Janta sweet home at nai sarak road. Try out their kachori and mirchi vada.

Jaisalmer: the city is famous for romantic getaways so is its restaurants. While we enjoyed the fort view from the root top restaurant in Jodhpur, here in Jaisalmer it was vice-versa, yup we were at the rooftop restaurant inside the Jaisalmer fort with an amazing night view of the city below. Hotel Victoria offers some of the best views of the city with a romantic ambiance and mouth-watering food.

While in Jaisalmer one can also enjoy the rooftop experience with the amazing view of Jaisalmer fort & Mandir Palace from the Golden roof restaurant. If you want a  closer view of Jaisalmer fort then its Jaisal Italy rooftop restaurant near to the fort gate.

Bikaner: In Bikaner one should try the local street foods on station road, Chhotu Motu Joshi Sweet Shop, Bhikharam Chandmal Bhujiawala among the popular ones. What we liked the most is the Malai Ghevar, apart from this there are Kachoris, Bhujia, Jalebi and generous lassi with a layer cream on top.

Jaipur: apart from forts, palaces and shopping, Jaipur is also famous for its wonderful restaurants and mouth-watering dishes. For the local foods try out Dal Bhati Churma, Sweet Kachori in Rawat Mishthan Bhandar. For a typical Rajasthan ambiance with good food and live music head to Peacock Rooftop restaurant.
